Privacy Policy

What we collect
- Account: your Google name and email address when you sign in.
- Profile: what you enter or upload: resume PDF, contact details, location, work history, education, skills, search settings.
- Application answers: work authorization, sponsorship, citizenship and, only if you choose to give them, voluntary demographic (EEO) answers. These are kept in a private area of your account.
- Activity: your swipes, applications, and their status.
How we use it
- To show you matching jobs and score them against your profile.
- To fill and submit applications to the employers you swipe right on. Each employer receives the information its form asks for.
- To write cover letters and answers with AI (see "AI" below).
- To submit applications for you. Applications are filled in and submitted by Lumen's own computer, which opens each employer's form in a browser on your behalf. While one is being sent, a temporary copy of your resume and answers is held on that computer, and it is deleted when the application ends.
- Auto mode (off unless you turn it on on the Account tab): Lumen applies on your behalf to jobs it rates at or above your minimum score, without asking you each time, up to the daily limit you set.
We don't sell your data and don't share it with anyone except the employers you apply to and the service providers that run Lumen.
AI (Anthropic Claude Haiku)
- Lumen uses Anthropic's Claude Haiku model to write your short cover letters and free-text answers, to rate how well a posting fits you, and to double-check what an employer email means (for example a rejection) before an application is moved.
- For a letter or answer, the job details and the parts of your profile it needs (for example your work history and skills) are sent to Anthropic, only for that application. For job ratings, a summary of your skills and preferences is sent without your name, email, phone number or address. For emails, the sender, subject and the first part of the message are sent.
- The model is told to use only what is in your resume and answers and never to invent experience. It can still make mistakes, so every letter and answer is shown in Applications.
- Anthropic processes this under its own terms; Lumen does not send your data to it for any other purpose.
Employer emails and Lumen's address
- To keep your own inbox out of the application forms, Lumen gives each application its own address at Lumen's mailbox (for example lumenapply+your.name.xxxxxxxx@gmail.com). Employers and their hiring software write to that address: security codes, "thank you for applying" notes, interview invitations and rejections.
- Lumen reads that mailbox automatically (read only) to enter security codes for you, to file each email under the right application in your account, and to mark an application as interview or rejected when an email clearly says so. Security codes are used once and not stored.
- Forwarded to you: unless you switch it off on the Account tab ("Employer emails in your inbox"), Lumen also re-sends each employer email (but never security codes) to your account email, from Lumen's address, as "Company (via Lumen)". The subject, text, pictures and attachments up to 5 MB are included; replies go straight to the employer. These copies travel through Google's mail servers (Gmail), which runs Lumen's mailbox. Lumen forwards to your account email only, never to anyone else.
- Notification emails: unless you switch each one off on the Account tab ("Email notifications"), Lumen emails your account email from Lumen's address when an application needs your answer, once a day with the jobs it applied to (only on days it applied), and when your application credits run low or run out. They contain the job title and company and a link to Lumen, no tracking pictures, and are sent through Gmail like the forwarded copies. Replies go to Lumen's support inbox.
- Your own address stays out of the forms: the email on each application is Lumen's relay address, not your account email. Employer mail to it is stored with that application in your account (the readable start of each message), and a security code is used once and not kept.
- Writing to Lumen: mail sent to Lumen's address that is not an employer reply (a question to support, for example) is stored in a private support inbox that only the Lumen administrator can read, until it is deleted.
Where it's stored
Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Google Cloud). Your profile, resume and answers can only be read by your own signed-in account and by the Lumen application service that submits your applications.
Demographic answers
Voluntary self-identification questions (gender, race, veteran and disability status) are optional. If you leave them blank, Lumen answers "Decline to self-identify" where the form offers it.
Your choices
You can edit your profile and answers at any time. You can download all of your data as a file, or delete your account and all of its data yourself, from the Account tab. Applications already sent to employers are held by those employers under their own policies. When you delete your account we keep only your email address (and the date), so that the free trial cannot be claimed again by signing up with the same email. We use it for nothing else.
Deleting your account also retires your application email addresses, so any later email to them is discarded and nothing more is added to your account. Copies of employer emails that Lumen's mailbox (Gmail) had already received stay there until they are removed by hand; write to lumenapply@gmail.com and we will delete them.
